There are a variety of different ways you can get involved with the Humanist Association of Ottawa. Some people just talk with us from afar on Twitter or Facebook. Others connect a little deeper by joining our Meetup group, our mailing lists, and attending meetings. Then there's those who want to get more involved, meet other Humanists and Atheists and possibly take a leadership or volunteer role in the group.
Humanist officiants have as their aim to provide a ceremony, wedding, funeral or child dedication, which conforms to Humanist principles and beliefs. Thus, the first obvious difference from church weddings is that there is no reference to a deity in them and no prayer. There is also no claim of a life hereafter that will almost inevitably appear in a religious ceremony, especially a funeral.
